De l’Eglise Saint Augustin à la Place Saint Denis, l’Art Déco s’impose avec brio... Maisons et immeubles bourgeois, logements sociaux, édifices religieux, officiels et même sportifs en affichent toutes les tendances: paquebot, moderniste, Bauhaus, constructiviste, école d’Amsterdam ou Beaux Arts... Luxueux ou "autoritaires", ils reflètent bien le climat, l’esprit de l’entre-deux-guerres...
Art Deco in Vorst
De zuidelijke randgemeente Vorst is één Art Deco-symfonie. Van de Sint-Augustinuskerk bovenop het plateau tot het Sint-Denijsplein beneden in het dal, is het één lange sliert van burgerhuizen, huurwoningen, kerken, administratieve gebouwen en zelfs een sportcomplex. Alle stijlen en richtingen uit het Interbellum komen aan bod : Art Deco zelf, modernisme, Bauhaus, constructivisme, school van Amsterdam, Beaux Arts… Allemaal getuigen ze van de tijdsgeest tijdens de wilde jaren 20.
